EcoKote is the most advanced water based paint in the world.
The limitations imposed by the USA, European Union, Japan,
and many other nations based upon the 1988 Montreal Protocol on the amount of
VOC (Volatile Organic Compounds) in paints caused great problems in technology
and painting applications. By using high content solvent-based paints, high
solid water-based paints and electrostatic paints, attempts are being made to
overcome these problems. The solutions offered by electrostatic paints are
limited in application by the physical size of the piece to be painted, as well
as the secondary components of the paint that generally carry serious health
risks. High solid water-based paints also have some application problems and
exhibit inadequate physical and chemical properties. This has led marine paint
manufacturers to turn to water-based paints in order to seek solutions for the
problems. For this reason they have been carrying out extensive research
worldwide.
The most developed marine water based paint in the world is EcoKote. Polyurethane paints
modified by acrylics, or those with ultra-fast oxygen activation have largely solved the problems with marine
paint. Water-based, self-priming EcoKote can be applied directly to aluminum, fiberglass, gel-coat, PVC,
galvanized steel, and other surfaces previously thought "un-paintable."
